In order to create a link test, click the green plus icon and choose link from the content dropdown. You’ll then be directed to the “Add Content Screen” - where you’ll see all the options to customize your test on the left and a preview of your content on the right. We get the preview of your content directly from your content’s OG tags. If your linked content doesn’t generate a preview, please make sure that the OG tags on your linked content are formatted correctly.
On the left side of your screen - you can change your optimization profile, the social handle that the test is linked to, a call to action, your posting options, the social handle that it’s posted to, add on internal content tags, enable the branded content handshake, edit the test budget, and flag your content as political. Once you’ve adjusted your settings to your liking - you can move over to the content preview on the right hand side of the page.
You can treat this as your first variation. Add your copy to the post text field and edit the headline if applicable. If you’d like to change the thumbnail - you can pull auto-detected images from the page in question by clicking on the first icon, do some minor editing if you click on the crop icon or upload a completely new image from your computer by clicking the third icon. Once you’ve approved your first message variations - click continue to be brought to the edit screen.
The Edit screen is where you’ll add in all your other thumbnail, post text, and headline variations. If you’ve chosen to add a CTA to your tests you can change your specific CTA as well. As you add in your copy variations, you’ll notice that the description isn’t carried over - this is because we’ve found that the strongest variables that determine interaction are the headline, post, text and thumbnail. The description doesn’t move the needle when it comes to clicks or engagement - additionally it gets cut off in the Facebook mobile view. Make sure to check your copy for any typos, if you notice one slipped by you - you can click the yellow edit pencil to “open” up your copy for editing. You can also clone a text combination to change it later or remove a text variable entirely.
After you’ve finished adding in your text variations, you can move onto adding your thumbnail variations. Much like the add content page, you can choose to scrape the linked page for other thumbnails and choose from any auto detected images. You also have the option to input a URL to an image that you have hosted on your site without any additional saving and uploading steps. You also have the traditional option where you can upload an image directly from your computer. In all the variations you have the option to tag the images for easy organization, minor editing to crop the image to your liking and the option to delete the image entirely.
After you’ve checked to make sure that all your your desired creatives are added , you can see how many combinations will be generated in the top right. After you’re sure - click Preview.
In the preview screen we’ll automatically generate all possible combinations from your entered creatives and they’ll be displayed on the right. If a certain thumbnail and copy combination don’t quite make sense - feel free to eliminate that version here.
On the left, you’ll be able to customize your Test Name (which will only be viewed internally - so treat this as an organizational tool), the test end time the budget, or your audience. We automatically pull in the all audiences housed in your Facebook Ad Account so you can easily complete cohort testing. At this stage your optimization goal and the social handle that your test is connected to will be locked in and unable to change. If you want to change a creative last minute, you can always click “edit” in the upper left hand corner to be brought back to the edit screen. If you’re happy with your variations press “Run Test.”
You test variations will all be submitted to Facebook for approval and you’ll be brought to your Individual Test Result Page. All tests you create will have an individual results page with total test metrics at the top and message by message metrics at the bottom. You can see where they are in the approval process by looking in the status column, when the hourglass is visible your messaging are still undergoing facebook approval. When you messages are approved the status symbol will change to the play icon.
In order to create a video test, click on the green plus button and select “Video” from the dropdown. You’ll be brought to a similar add content screen, but instead of a URL field you’ll have the options to upload a video or choose one from your Facebook Page Video Library.
Besides that main steps testing process remain the same - on the left hand side of the screen you’ll be able to customize your optimization goal, the social handle that you want your test message to automatically post to, append content tags, initiate the branded content handshake, flat content as political, and make any edits to your test budget.
On the right side of the page we’ll have a preview of how your video will show up in Facebook. Much like the link tests you can treat this version as your first message variation. Add in your post text and, if you’d like, you can change your video thumbnail image. Naytev automatically scrubs your video for the most interesting screenshots, so if you’d like to replace your thumbnail image with another still from the video you can automatically do that. We also offer minor editing so you can crop and center your image as you’d like and finally if you have a specially designed thumbnail for your video you can upload it directly to Naytev from your computer.
After you’ve clicked continue - you’ll be brought to the edit screen, where you can add different cuts of video, thumbnails, and post text. Because Naytev seeks to mimic organic interaction in the Feed we don’t automatically give you the option to input a headline. If you’d like to test the headline field, Facebook requires that a CTA must be used in conjunction with the headline. Since users are trained to look at CTAs as sponsored or ad content - make sure to use this feature as needed.
Choose to add another cut of video from your Facebook Page Library or directly from your computer. You can put cuts of video head to head to see which version is more impactful.
To add additional thumbnails you can grab thumbnails from either video, upload them yourself, or if you have a thumbnail already hosted on your site - input the image URL to have it pulled in directly to Naytev. If an image seems off - make sure to click the edit button to crop it to you desired position and use the “eye” icon to make sure that it displays properly.
Finally, add post text that gives context to what your video is about. Keep an eye on how many variations that you’re creating in the upper right hand corner and once you’re satisfied click “Continue.”
In the Preview Screen you’ll see all your variations as they would appear in the Facebook Feed. Feel free to remove any combinations that don’t make sense and adjust the Test Name (which will only be viewed internally) so treat this as an organizational tool), the test end time the budget, or your audience.
Once you’ve proofed your message variations - click “Run Test.”
